Chicago ICAA Summer Sketching Series

The practice of sketching for architects and designers is more important now than it ever has been before. In a world that is focused on technology and artificial intelligence, it is crucial to take a break and practice hand drawing and sketching. Urban sketching allows us to truly see and observe the world around us which, in turn, will make us better designers. By lookingat a building and capturing it on paper, we are taking note of the different features. The doors, the windows, the brick detailing, the sills, the headers, the cornice, etc. By venturing out and sketching in the world around us, over time we will expand our mental encyclopedia of details, features, and other design aspects that will make us a better designer.

This Summer Sketching Series includes 3 different meet-up sessions at different locations in the city. We will be going through materials, choice of subject, mini-lessons about important skills such as perspective and composition, and a final “critique” and review at the end of each session. Tickets are available as a three-part series (with slightly discounted rates) or you can sign up for individual dates.

Instructor Bio:
Lisa Wronski is an artist and architect working in Chicago. Her drawings explore scenes of everyday urban life - the bustling intersections, the worker cottages, the alleys, and the local cafes. Lisa received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014, which included a year-long study abroad experience in Versailles, France. Her time abroad was pivotal to her growth as an artist and designer. She went on to receive her Master of Architecture in 2016. Lisa has exhibited her work throughout the city and is an avid contributor to urban sketchers.
