Chicago ICAA Summer Sketching Series

The practice of sketching for architects and designers is more important now than it ever has been before. In a world that is focused on technology and artificial intelligence, it is crucial to take a break and practice hand drawing and sketching. Urban sketching allows us to truly see and observe the world around us which, in turn, will make us better designers. By looking at a building and capturing it on paper, we are taking note of the different features. The doors, the windows, the brick detailing, the sills, the headers, the cornice, etc. By venturing out and sketching in the world around us, over time we will expand our mental encyclopedia of details, features, and other design aspects that will make us a better designer.

This Summer Sketching Series includes 3 different meet-up sessions at different locations in the city. We will be going through materials, choice of subject, mini-lessons about important skills such as perspective and composition, and a final “critique” and review at the end of each session. Tickets are available as a three-part series (with slightly discounted rates) or you can sign up for individual dates.
